Want to stay in Mexico’s San Miguel de Allende, but looking for something hip and modern instead of colonial? Well the first notable hotel to open in a while in this popular small city will fit the bill perfectly. Check out our detailed review of Hotel Matilda.

This hotel is a major break from the norm in San Miguel de Allende, which is full of evocative bed & breakfasts housed in historic mansions—or even a whole block of them. Matilda is unabashedly modern, with quirky furniture, clean lines, lots of artwork, and room colors built around black and white.

It’s more comfortable and functional than most hipster hotels, however, and the bilingual staffers (wearing Chuck Taylor All-stars) are friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great spot for strolling too: right beside the main park and a few blocks from the central square. See more here: Hotel Matilda boutique hotel in San Miguel.
