Got some Marriott points to cash in? Bogatá has got a new JW Marriott hotel that’s waiting for you.

We pass on a lot of international business chain hotels when deciding who to feature in our luxury hotel reviews for Latin America. That’s because what business travelers want is often the opposite of what our readers want. Business travelers love predictability, efficiency, and meeting space, with the desk set-up and TV selection in the room often being more important than personal service or a unique design.

Sometimes, however, that chain hotel rises above the competition in the area and makes the most of its company’s attributes: good training programs, ample resources, and quality mattresses.

The JW Marriott in Bogota, Colombia is one of those. There are other great hotels in that city, of course, but they’re more intimate. If you’re looking for a no-fuss large hotel experience with no surprises, this 264-room property will fit the bill. It’s also got a prime location in the financial district, near the best restaurants, and only 30 minutes from the airport.

In addition to the expected spacious baths, fine linens, and comfortable furniture in your room, this hotel went a bit beyond the template and incorporated some Colombian influences. There are reminders of the country’s coffee heritage and La Mina restaurant was built as a replica of the Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá.
