Grace Hotels is known for outstanding luxury hotel properties in such diverse places as Morocco, Connecticut, and Greece, so we’re happy to see them land in Argentina in a town that really needed them: Cafayate, Argentina.
You see, Cafayate once had a hotel that was quite swanky and was part of the Starwood Luxury Collection, but it has been on a downhill slide for years and is no longer part of that affiliation. Nobody else has stepped forth to fill the void with a true luxury hotel to please picky guests. Until now.
Now we have an upscale resort on a vineyard development (which also has a residential element) complete with a golf course and sunny swimming pool. The rooms here blow away anything else within a few hours’ drive.
All rooms have luxurious king-size beds, larger–than–life bathrooms, and all the amenities you would expect to find in a hotel of its caliber — espresso machine, high–quality linens, flat–screen televisions, his and hers robes and slippers, and high–end bath products.
The rates roughly correspond to view and size, with the ones looking out at the majestic Andes Mountains being well worth the upgrade.
The restaurant Muse also didn’t have a high bar to jump to become the best in the area upon opening, but they went well beyond that to create a true gourmet experience. There is also an outdoor barbecue pit area, a comfy cigar lounge, and a pool bar.
Of course the friendly staffers can arrange activities in the area, including tours beyond the on-site winery to others in Cafayate, a town famous for the distinctive Torrontes varietal.
This is the company’s first foray into Argentina, but they have a second on the way. That’s a big vote of confidence in a country that’s being universally tagged as a business-unfriendly basket case. Their opening should put this attractive part of North Argentina on the map for luxury travelers who have been avoiding it in the past. Now they can find a hotel on par with what they’ll find in Buenos Aires or Bariloche.
