Phoenix Resort Belize condo living room

If that shot above doesn’t look like a typical hotel room, that’s because it’s not. When you stay at Phoenix Resort Belize on Ambergris Caye, you won’t have to leave your unit to have a little space to yourself. The large bedrooms open onto a spacious furnished terrace running the length of the unit and you get a fully equipped kitchen and open dining/living room.

One of the main reasons travelers choose a vacation home rental or villa over a hotel is they don’t want to be crammed into one room, especially with kids. Even if you upgrade to a suite, you can still end up falling over each others. Phoenix Resort in San Pedro gives you the best of all worlds though: it’s right in town, it has full resort facilities, and you more space than you’ll find in many city center condos people live in back home. Take a tour at the video below:

This is not a new review for us as we checked it out many years ago when it was fairly new. Somehow ten years flew by though and this Ambergris resort is celebrating a landmark birthday this year. You wouldn’t know it by the looks of it though: the public areas and grounds are extremely well maintained and my condo unit looked almost new.

Lap pool at the waterfront Phoenix Resort Belize in San Pedro town, Ambergris Caye. This luxury San Pedro resort started out a bit more modestly on the service side, with fewer staffers, no real bar, and a restaurant that only served lunch and dinner. None of this was a huge deal since there is so much to choose from within walking distance, but over the years the management has been upping its game in response to guest requests. So the well-regarded Red Ginger is now open early in the morning and serving brunch on Sunday. There’s a dedicated bar now with a place to belly up and some lounging areas.

There are a few nice surprises thrown in at The Phoenix, like a happy hour with complimentary drinks from 5:00 to 6:00, a small bottle of rum and mixer, and a loaner cell phone you can carry around with free local calls included. The units in one, two, and three bedrooms have impressively stocked granite kitchens, with lots of small appliances like a blender, toaster oven, and water filter.

As with many Ambergris Caye resorts, there’s no real beach here, but the pool complex is large and inviting, with a lap pool and lounging pool on several levels. The staffers can set up a snorkeling or diving trip to visit the reef that’s visible in the distance from shore. The resort is also a short walk from a ferry dock to get to the capital city.
