Imagine kicking back on a floating raft in your infinity pool, drink in hand, with a 180-degree view over Puerto Vallarta and the ocean. You’re listening to your favorite songs on the stereo and thinking about what your chef will be preparing for dinner as the sky turns orange from the sunset. That’s the scene at Punta del Cielo villa, a house rental that’s walking distance from downtown and the Romantic Zone.

Punta del Cielo villa Puerto Vallarta

We recently posted two video tours of luxury Punta Mita villa rentals: Casa Koko and Casa Fortuna. Those are roughly an hour north of the Puerto Vallarta airport. If you head the other direction, into the city itself, you’ll find a different kind of vacation rental. The houses are much closer together and there’s a lot more bustling action in the center. So the Puerto Vallarta villa rentals tend to be places with a view of Banderas Bay, houses where the emphasis is on convenience and fun rather than privacy and quiet.

That’s the case with Punta del Cielo, the third option from Agave Villas that we highlighted in this feature article on Mexico vacation home rentals in the region. It has six bedrooms with various bed configurations and views, all with their own bathrooms, plus a glorious swimming pool, dining room for 12, and two living rooms–one poolside and one upstairs with a fire pit. It also has a lot of green space next to it for a house in the center of town. Come take a tour and check it out!

Punta del Cielo tends to attract groups of friends taking a vacation together, with a few sharing families now and then too. This is the kind of vacation villa you rent when you expect to be out and about a fair bit on vacation instead of just decompressing from your work stress in one place. Many of the guests are taking boat trips and local adventures, eating out at lunch, or exploring local Puerto Vallarta brewpubs. After dinner, some take advantage of the convenient location to hit the local clubs and then walk home.

You don’t have to worry about preparing meals or washing the dishes though. This rental comes with a private villa chef who will cook your breakfast and dinner, based on the choices you worked out with the concierge before arrival. You pay for groceries and they take care of the rest. They’ll also stock the fridge and bar with whatever you choose to drink. They’ll pick up liquor and mixers, purchase wine for dinner, and get whatever kind of beer or sodas you want to have on hand at the pool. The villa even has a cooler on a stand that you can fill with cans so you only have to walk a few steps from the lounge chairs or your “pool hammock” in the water.

With six bedrooms that each sleep two, you can gather quite a few friends for a fun vacation together. The rental price for this city villa can actually work out to be less than a hotel, with a lot more personal attention and the whole place to yourself. Outside of holiday periods, the house goes for $1,160 to $1,421 per night if using all bedrooms, including taxes. Sure, you’ll still be responsible for food costs and tips, but that’s true at a hotel as well and the villa cost by itself works out to less than $250 per couple. It’s tough to find a Puerto Vallarta luxury hotel for that rate.

The only thing I didn’t like about our stay at Punta del Cielo was that it was too short. I’d love to return for a longer period with some friends and have a few nights on the town in Puerto Vallarta while we were there. This is a terrific home to come back to and a wonderful place to enjoy the glorious sunsets from above it all.
